I hope you have had an enjoyable summer.
It is a great honour and privilege to be appointed Head Master at The Windsor Boys’ School and I am looking forward to taking up my responsibilities in September.
By way of introducing myself, here are some of the issues that are important to me. Please share them with your son so that we can all start the year with the same expectations.
Enjoying School Although there are considerable pressures and challenges on the boys during the school years 9 to 13, there is much to enjoy. It is a time when long lasting friendships can be established; personal interests and sporting activities are brought up to a high level; and when exciting plans and decisions are made about the future. I would like every boy to be happy and to feel the school is there to encourage and support them, and to guide them along the right path.
Highest Standards of Learning A successful student always works hard both in the classroom and when doing homework, makes sure that each and every lesson is productive and constructive, and is mature enough to accept compliments, encouragement, advice and corrections about his work. I expect all of the boys to follow these simple guidelines so that they achieve the highest standards of learning.
Good Relationships Good relationships are the key to a successful school and the responsibility of every member of the community. The personal characteristics I will want to see in the boys are: hard work, excellent behaviour, support for other boys’ learning, respect for all staff, kindness, self-control and an optimistic and ambitious view of life. If we stick to these I believe we can maintain the school’s outstanding reputation and improve on it in the years ahead.
School Rules The school has a very simple and straightforward set of rules which I will expect every boy to follow at all times. These include correct uniform, excellent time-keeping and taking pride in the environment by leaving it tidy and litter free. Hair styles should be off the face as well as the collar. Boys must also ensure that they have the right books and equipment for each subject.
Parents and Carers I have heard that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. I believe the right balance between home and school gives young people the best start in life. I am very much looking forward to getting to know YOU: the families of the boys. I would like you to feel welcome in the school and that you are well informed and listened to. For me this is a priority.
2010-2011 will be an exciting and challenging year at The Windsor Boys’ School and there is a lot of work to be done. We all have a part to play and by working together I am sure we will succeed, and every boy will look back and say, ‘that was a good year’.
Yours sincerely
J Clauson Head Master |
